Great news for all fans of a vacation at sea: Starting in September 2026, the EXPLORA III, the newest addition to the Explora Journeys fleet, will dock in Hamburg. The luxury brand of the MSC Group is using the Hanseatic city as a permanent homeport for exclusive voyages into the North Atlantic. For the European premium market, this decision is a massive step that combines cutting-edge technology with the highest level of travel comfort.

The choice of Hamburg is no coincidence. The ship will dock directly at the central Cruise Center HafenCity. This is ideal for all travelers from the German-speaking region. Arrival is convenient by train or by car, which completely eliminates the need for exhausting long-haul flights before the vacation. You simply drop off your luggage, and your holiday begins completely stress-free.

A true milestone is the environmentally friendly propulsion technology. The Hamburg terminals are equipped with powerful shore power systems. Since the EXPLORA III was built precisely for this standard, there are absolutely no local emissions or disturbing engine noises while docked. At sea, the ship runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and additionally uses modern hydrogen fuel cells to supply clean energy to the hotel operations.

To accommodate this new technology in the hull, the ship is 20 meters longer than its predecessors. The exciting part: The maximum passenger capacity remains at only 922 guests. This means an enormous amount of space for every individual. On board, it creates the relaxed feeling of traveling on a private mega-yacht rather than a traditional cruise ship.

Everyone who steps aboard stays exclusively in luxurious suites. Every cabin offers its own large veranda. Regardless of whether you are looking to starboard or port, the view of the waves is always guaranteed. Around 700 crew members take care of the guests' well-being. Culinary delights are provided by 11 different restaurants and 12 bars, while a spacious spa area invites you to relax.

The routes are also a real highlight. To escape the intense summer heat in the Mediterranean, the ship heads to the significantly cooler North. The season kicks off in early September with a relaxed preliminary trip from Copenhagen to Hamburg. After that, the ship sets course for Great Britain and Iceland.

Those with more time can easily extend their adventure. Without having to change cabins, the journey continues from Iceland across Greenland all the way to Canada. The ultimate crowning glory, however, is the grand 30-night voyage that starts in Hamburg and ends in New York just in time for the colorful leaves of the "Indian Summer."
