After 47 anxious days in the Orient, there is finally good news: the MSC Euribia has left the Persian Gulf! Due to geopolitical tensions and the blocked Strait of Hormuz, the 184,000 GT LNG cruise ship was stuck in Dubai for months. On April 18, 2026, a brief diplomatic window opened, which the cruise line utilized for a successful escape from the conflict zone.

Safety was always the top priority. MSC Cruises had already brought all roughly 1,500 passengers safely home via a specially organized airlift. Only a so-called skeleton crew remained on board. These technical experts achieved a masterstroke by keeping the highly complex systems of the liquefied natural gas-powered ship stable under extreme conditions in the desert climate.

The escape itself resembled a tactical maneuver. Together with other stranded ships, the MSC Euribia formed a convoy. The crew kept a close eye on the waters to starboard and port to safely navigate through the strait into Oman. Because the Red Sea is currently too dangerous as well, the ship is now taking the long and expensive detour around the South African Cape of Good Hope.

Despite the massive distance, there is reason for cruise fans to rejoice: the European summer schedule is saved! The MSC Euribia is expected to arrive on time at its base port in Kiel on May 16, 2026, to set sail for the Norwegian fjords from there. However, the cruise industry is drawing conclusions for the coming winter months: trips to the Orient have been canceled, and cruise lines are instead increasingly relocating their ships to the Caribbean.
