Technically, the shipyard relies on close cooperation with battery specialist Corvus Energy. Since large internal combustion engines are no longer required, the design changes radically: the prominent funnel disappears completely. This "Funnel-Free" design creates entirely new spaces on deck for passengers. Without exhaust fumes or soot particles, the air on starboard and port becomes noticeably fresher. Additionally, disruptive vibrations and engine noise are eliminated, significantly increasing comfort on board.
A highlight for guests is the weather-independent planning. In "Project Vision," the Aqua Park moves to the stern and is completely covered, making the ship an ideal companion for year-round routes in Northern Europe or the Mediterranean. To ensure sufficient energy, the concept is designed for "port-hopping"—shorter distances between ports equipped with high-performance charging infrastructure. For longer repositioning voyages, the ship can be modularly equipped with range extenders, such as eco-friendly methanol fuel cells.
The greatest challenge currently remains on land. To charge the massive batteries during port stays, harbors require enormous electrical power and state-of-the-art Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS). The EU is already setting the pace with new regulations to ensure the appropriate infrastructure is available by 2030. For Meyer Werft, which is now 80 percent state-owned, this project is crucial proof of the innovative strength of German shipbuilding on the path to "Net Zero" cruising.
