The 2026 cruise season in Rostock-Warnemünde is officially open. The ceremonial kick-off was made by the "AIDAdiva" on March 29th. Right on time at 08:00 AM, the Sphinx-class ship moored at the passenger quay. This was a turnaround, meaning a complete passenger exchange. That same evening, the ship left the Warnow estuary again for a five-day short cruise towards Sweden. These short routes are especially popular with first-time cruisers.

In total, the port operators expect 161 to 162 calls from 20 different cruise lines this year. These numbers remain stable compared to the previous year. Although they are still below the record years due to the geopolitical situation and the loss of St. Petersburg, the quality of the port calls has changed. Today, Warnemünde is less of a pure transit station and much more a strong base port. Out of the planned calls, 95 are true turnaround calls. This brings enormous benefits to the local economy through hotel stays and restaurant visits.

A look at the fleet reveals an exciting variety. AIDA Cruises remains the top dog with 65 calls. The "AIDAdiva" presented itself in a fresh new look for the season start. It had previously undergone the massive "AIDA Evolution" modernization program. New restaurants and family areas were created during this refit. In addition to large ships like the gigantic "Sky Princess" (330 meters in length), 2026 will also see an increasing number of ships from the ultra-luxury and expedition segments. Yachts like the Ritz-Carlton's "Evrima" may bring fewer passengers, but they bring highly affluent guests to the coast.

Environmental protection remains a major topic. The port of Rostock-Warnemünde is further expanding its pioneering role in shore power, also known as cold ironing. Ships can turn off their diesel engines in port and draw clean energy from the grid. AIDA Cruises plans to use shore power during every call in Warnemünde. At the same time, regular ferry and freight traffic continues to run smoothly in the universal port of Rostock, proving the immense logistical capabilities of the location.

Additionally, the season is marked by a major anniversary: 30 years of AIDA Cruises. These celebrations are also reflected in the port. On April 25th and 26th, 2026, a massive Port Party will take place in Warnemünde. For this event, the "AIDAdiva" and the "AIDAmar" are expected for a spectacular double call. Once again, Warnemünde proves that the port is not just a place for logistics, but a true stage of experiences for all maritime fans.
