For the crew, the end of the Canary Islands season represents a logistical masterclass. During the upcoming repositioning voyage, the AIDAcosma will leave the port, with the sunny piers soon disappearing from view on the starboard and port sides. The journey towards the mainland now features many days at sea. These offer passengers plenty of time for relaxation and a slow climatic adjustment to the cooler temperatures.
While the routes of the large ships are changing, the cruise line continues to work in the background on the future of the entire fleet. Under the "AIDA Evolution" program, massive sums are being invested to technically upgrade the older Sphinx-class ships as well. The clear goal is more climate-friendly maritime travel. The consistent use of shore power in ports helps to significantly reduce local emissions while the ships are docked.
The past season has also shown that a vacation by and on the sea attracts people of all ages. The cruise line is heavily focusing on new experiences for Generation Z, for instance through loud festival cruises. At the same time, families are well catered for: practical innovations like official DLRG swimming courses for children turn the ship into a fully-fledged, floating resort for all generations.
