Change of Course for MSC Poesia: Season Ends Early for Alaska Refit
Behind the scenes, it becomes clear that this step is purely strategic. An extensive revitalization is scheduled at the Palumbo Shipyard in Malta to prepare the ship for its debut in Alaska in May 2026. To remain competitive there, the exclusive "MSC Yacht Club" is being retrofitted—a massive structural intervention. Additionally, the ship will receive important technical environmental updates, such as shore power connections, to meet the strict regulations in sensitive US waters.
The US market, and Alaska in particular, is considered enormously lucrative but also demanding. With this refit, MSC is responding to the high expectations of American guests and the strong local competition. The extra time gained in the shipyard by cancelling the voyage ensures that all work will be completed on time for the start of the season in Seattle, safeguarding the crucial market entry.
For the affected customers, there is at least a fair financial solution. In addition to a full refund of the cruise fare, MSC is offering a Future Cruise Credit of 50 percent. In doing so, the cruise line is accommodating its guests and avoiding lengthy disputes, while the ship prepares for its new mission on the other side of the Atlantic.
