The days of slow, unstable satellite connections are over. Through the strategic transition to SpaceX's Starlink network, which uses Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, bandwidth and stability have been significantly increased.
This investment provided the basis for TUI Cruises to completely renew its WiFi offering. The result is a tariff landscape that, for the first time, allows for bandwidth-intensive applications such as video calls or occasional streaming at sea – although not comparable to land-based networks.
Overview of Current Internet Tariffs (Q4 2025)
The structure of the Mein Schiff tariffs is based on tiered volume packages. The goal: The right offer for every user type.
- SurfLight (1 GB): The tariff for casual users who primarily check emails and send short messages.
- SurfFlow (10 GB): The standard package for daily surfing and photo sharing.
- SurfStream (25 GB): The premium package for heavy users who also want to use video calls and high-quality streaming.
- SurfSocialMedia (Flat Rate): A special tariff with unlimited data volume, which is limited to a predefined list of social media and messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Instagram). Bandwidth-intensive functions like video streaming within the apps are excluded to protect the network.
However, these Internet options could soon be a thing of the past. The tariff structure is currently being revised. This will lead to restrictions and even the temporary suspension of Internet package bookings.
