Cruise enthusiasts and foodies have reason to celebrate! Oceania Cruises has taken a unique approach for the christening of its newest ship, the Oceania Allura. Instead of the usual single prominent person, the cruise line has appointed six celebrated chefs from the renowned "Food & Wine Best New Chefs" (BNC) program as its collective godparents. This ceremony will take place on November 13, 2025, in the port of Miami, where the godparents will perform the traditional ritual of smashing a champagne bottle against the ship's bow. 🍾

This decision deliberately breaks with centuries-old maritime traditions. Instead of royalty or actresses, culinary experts are now at the center of the event. This emphasizes what truly matters to Oceania Cruises: its outstanding cuisine. The choice of six godparents highlights the diversity and scope of the gastronomic offerings on the Allura, which features over twelve gourmet highlights, including five specialty restaurants at no extra charge.

The six chefs represent the cutting edge of modern American culinary art. Each brings a unique culinary expertise. Katie Button is known for Spanish cuisine, George Mendes for modern Portuguese dishes, and Calvin Eng for Cantonese-American fusion cuisine. Tavel Bristol-Joseph is an award-winning patissier, while Aisha Ibrahim comes from the world of top-tier gastronomy. Finally, Lawrence "L.T." Smith, celebrated for his Southwestern cuisine, will lead the ceremonial bottle smashing.

The partnership with "Food & Wine" is a smart move to position the brand as a leader in culinary cruising. It signals that Oceania Cruises offers more than just meals; it creates an authentic, constantly evolving culinary experience.

The new vessel, built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, is a true masterpiece. With a length of 246 meters and space for up to 1,220 guests, the Allura is a mid-sized luxury ship. However, what truly sets it apart are the numbers that confirm the quality on board: there is an impressive ratio of two crew members for every three guests and even one chef for every eight passengers! This ratio proves that the sophisticated and fresh dishes for which Oceania Cruises is known are prepared by an excellent culinary team.

The ship offers a variety of culinary innovations. These include the "La Brasserie Lunch Experience" in the main dining room, the reopening of the specialty restaurant "Jacques," and an expanded menu in the pan-Asian restaurant Red Ginger with Nikkei dishes (a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine). There are also new concepts such as the health-focused restaurant Aquamar Kitchen and the casual Crêperie, serving French crêpes and Belgian waffles.

The Oceania Allura's maiden voyage from Miami in April 2026 will take it across the Atlantic to Piraeus-Athens in Europe, where it will then cruise the Mediterranean.
