Although the Star Princess will embark on its maiden voyage on October 4, 2025, from Barcelona in the Mediterranean, the official and media-focused christening will take place more than a month later. The choice of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as the christening location is strategically important. The U.S. is the largest market for Princess Cruises, and holding the ceremony there, just before the start of the lucrative winter Caribbean season, is intended to maximize attention from North American media and customers. The christening thus marks the ship's successful transition from its European debut to its long-term deployment in the Caribbean.
The Star Princess is the second vessel of the innovative Sphere Class and the sister ship to the Sun Princess. With a gross tonnage of 177,800 and a capacity for 4,300 guests, the ship offers plenty of space and comfort. It features 30 different restaurants and bars, with a strong focus on culinary diversity.
The Star Princess is also a pioneer in terms of sustainability. It is the second ship in the fleet to be primarily powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This propulsion system significantly reduces emissions, making the ship more environmentally friendly. With two Azipod propulsion units and four large bow thrusters, the ship is also highly maneuverable, which is particularly beneficial for planned routes like the 2026 Alaska season, where precise maneuvers in narrow fjords are essential.
