The Port of Hamburg is gearing up for a significant new addition: The new Cruise Center HafenCity is scheduled to officially open today, September 12, 2025. The festive inauguration will take place as part of the 10th Hamburg Cruise Days, aiming to make the major maritime event even more significant. Hamburg's First Mayor, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, is also expected to be present, underscoring the project's importance.

This new terminal will be the fourth of its kind in the Hanseatic city and is strategically located in the southern Überseequartier. This is set to make it the most central and best-connected of all Hamburg's cruise terminals. Its connection to public transport is excellent, and it is located right next to the recently opened Westfield shopping center.

With two berths measuring 345 and 230 meters, a large and a smaller cruise ship will be able to dock simultaneously in the future. An average of 2,500 passengers are to be processed per ship. The large, pillar-free hall can also be used as an event venue and is expected to accommodate up to 800 people. This dual use will ensure year-round revenue, even outside the cruise season.

The upcoming opening of the terminal is the crowning achievement of a construction project that had faced delays. The original completion was planned for Easter 2025 but had to be postponed. The festive inauguration during the Hamburg Cruise Days therefore sends a strong signal for the future of the location and is expected to reaffirm Hamburg's role as one of the world's leading cruise cities.
