Since September 10, the impressive light installation "Blue Port Hamburg" by artist Michael Batz has been bathing the harbor in a magical sea of blue light. This wonderful prelude will last until September 21 and ensures that the city is already in a festive mood days before the main program.
Today, Friday, September 12, the official shore program begins punctually at 2 PM. The harbor promenade between the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken and the Elbphilharmonie has been transformed into a vibrant mile with markets, live music, and a wide range of culinary offerings. The participating cruise lines are showcasing their brands directly by the water, for example, with AIDA Cruises' "Urlaubswelt" (Holiday World).
There is also plenty to see on the water today. The AIDAsol, the EUROPA, and the VASCO DA GAMA are in the harbor. A special highlight will be the light and laser show centered around the VASCO DA GAMA this evening. This year, a total of eight to nine ships are participating in the Hamburg Cruise Days—the large ocean liners are joined by the smaller river cruise ship MS Sans Souci.
An exciting new feature is that the trade fair Seatrade Europe opened its doors to cruise fans for the first time today. The so-called "Destination Discovery Friday" brings experts and the general public together.
Due to the many expected visitors—up to 250,000 people over the weekend—traffic closures were put in place days in advance. Organizers therefore recommend using public transportation. For the safety of visitors, the Hamburg police have also established a no-drone zone for the entire event area.
The Hamburg Cruise Days 2025 are therefore more than just a public festival. They are a strategically well-planned event that shows how the cruise industry is growing together, opening up to the public, and simultaneously mastering major logistical challenges.
