MSC Euribia Grand Voyage Canceled: Cruise from Dubai to Kiel Canceled Due to Red Sea Security

MSC Cruises has cancelled the MSC Euribia's "Grand Voyage" scheduled for spring 2026, which was set to sail from Dubai to Kiel. The reason for this is the ongoing unstable security situation in the Red Sea. Instead of sailing the route with passengers, the ship will make the journey without guests, taking the longer route around Africa. This procedure, also known as "deadheading," has been used multiple times in the past by MSC and other cruise lines.

The cancellation of this Grand Voyage is not an isolated decision. It is part of a series of cancellations that MSC Cruises has made over the past two years. The crossings in both spring and autumn 2025 were also cancelled for similar reasons. This shows that the cruise line no longer considers the situation a temporary issue but a long-term problem.

The reactions of cruise companies to the situation in the Red Sea vary. While MSC Cruises is maintaining its local seasonal sailings in the Orient but cancelling the repositioning voyages, AIDA Cruises, for example, already cancelled its entire Orient season for winter 2025/2026 back in July 2025. This was done to offer customers reliable planning security from the start. TUI Cruises, on the other hand, is also rerouting its ships around the Cape of Good Hope. The industry has collectively decided that passenger safety takes priority, even if it results in higher operational costs due to longer sea routes.

Passengers who booked the now-cancelled trip are entitled to a full refund of the cruise fare. This amount must be paid out within 14 days. It is important to know that in the case of a cancellation due to "extraordinary circumstances" like this, there is no entitlement to compensation for additional costs such as flights or hotels booked with other providers. Those who wish can also consider alternative offers from the cruise line but are not obligated to do so.
