Celebrity Cruises Sets Sail: New Fleet to Conquer the European River Cruise Market

The well-known cruise line Celebrity Cruises is taking a new step: under the name "Celebrity River Cruises," the company is entering the European river cruise market. The plans were recently announced and involve the construction of two new ships. The Celebrity Compass and the Celebrity Seeker are scheduled to begin sailing on the Rhine and Danube rivers starting in the 2027 season. With this move, Celebrity Cruises is responding to demand from its own clientele, as many of its loyal guests have already shown interest in river travel.

The new ships are designed to stand out from the competition. A patented design is intended to provide more usable outdoor space on the upper decks—a crucial advantage, as these areas are often restricted by bridges on other ships. A very special highlight is the so-called "Magic Edge." These are dining pods that extend out from the ship over the water, promising an unparalleled culinary experience.

Inside the ships, Celebrity is bringing the proven luxury known from its ocean-going fleet. The 86 cabins and suites are designed to accommodate a king-size bed and are equipped with every comfort. Guests can choose from five different categories, including the "Skylight Infinite Balcony Suites" with a separate living area and ceiling windows.

The company is also transferring its successful service concept to the new river cruise ships. A comprehensive all-inclusive package covers meals as well as selected beverages, Wi-Fi access, and daily shore excursions. Suite guests even have access to a butler service via a "Butler Chat." Eight different restaurants and bars on board also ensure a level of culinary variety that is rare on river cruises.

Environmental protection plays an important role as well. The ships are equipped with a hybrid propulsion system to reduce their ecological footprint. This underscores the company's commitment to sustainability and positions the new fleet as a pioneer in the industry.

The 2027 debut season will feature 33 seven-night voyages on the Rhine and Danube. The routes have been planned to include overnight stays in key cities such as Vienna and Budapest.

Those interested can secure their spot now by placing a fully refundable deposit before official bookings open in early 2026. A 7-day adventure is available starting at $2,999 per person.
