Traffic Chaos in Hamburg: How to Reach the Queen Mary 2 on Sunday, August 17, 2025

On Sunday, August 17, 2025, a major event in Hamburg will lead to significant traffic disruptions and road closures, which will also affect the journey to the Cruise Terminal Steinwerder. Guests of Cunard's Queen Mary 2 should take this into account when planning their trip.

Main Disruptions in the Port Area:

  • Waltershof / Steinwerder / Grasbrook Area: The main port route via the Köhlbrandbrücke (Köhlbrand Bridge) and Roßdamm is affected. The roads Finkenwerder Strasse, Köhlbrandbrücke, Roßdamm, and Veddeler Damm will be closed or only partially accessible on Sunday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
  • The highway on-ramp AS 30a Hamburg-Waltershof of the A7 in the northerly direction is closed.
  • Exiting the A7 at AS 30 Hamburg-Waltershof towards the port is not possible.

Recommended Travel Routes:

  • To reach the port, it is recommended to detour via the A1 and A255 to the Veddel exit.
  • For those arriving from the Elbbrücken (Elbe bridges), it is recommended to bypass the city center widely through the Freihafen (Free Port) and over the Köhlbrandbrücke to the AS Othmarschen of the A7.

  • The closed sections of roads cannot be crossed.
  • It is strongly advised to allow extra time for your journey.
