Access to the crew areas of a cruise ship is a rarity for passengers. While paid backstage tours or galley tours are occasionally offered, combining such a tour with a multi-course meal represents a special level of exclusivity. Due to spatial and logistical constraints, such events can only be realized for a very limited number of participants. For this reason, they are either associated with additional costs or reserved for a select circle of guests.
The provision hold, known in technical terms as the provision, is the beating heart of the ship's supply chain. It is where all goods needed for daily consumption on board are stored. This includes vast quantities of food, beverages, and other consumables to supply the approximately 2,500 guests and the entire crew. The regular replenishment of these stocks, known as "loading," currently takes place for the AIDAsol during passenger changeovers in its homeport of Hamburg.
The AIDAsol is currently on a 12-day voyage to Iceland. The journey began in Hamburg and includes stops in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands, followed by the Icelandic ports of Reykjavik, Ísafjörður, and Akureyri. On the return trip to the Hanseatic city, a stop in Scrabster, Scotland, is also planned. The ship will continue to operate out of Germany's second-largest city for nine and twelve-day cruises in Northern and Western Europe until the end of October.
