At the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, another significant construction phase for Disney Cruise Line's new Disney Destiny has been completed. A key element of this was the installation of a monumental sculpture at the ship's stern, featuring Spider-Man and his Spiderbots. The larger-than-life figure was precisely hoisted into position by cranes and securely mounted earlier this week.

This marks a first in the history of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, as it is the first time a character from the Marvel universe has graced the stern of one of their ships. The artfully designed figure depicts Spider-Man in a dynamic pose, accompanied by three of his Spiderbots. In a humorous detail, the small robots are equipped with typical cruise accessories like sunglasses and snorkels. The design of the stern figures is a characteristic feature of the Disney fleet and originates from the company's own design studios.

The next crucial step in the construction process is imminent. The float-out of the Disney Destiny is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025, when the ship will leave the building dock for the first time and become visible to the public in the shipyard's harbor. However, this maneuver is subject to prevailing weather conditions. Strong crosswinds could make it impossible for the tugboats to safely guide the large cruise ship out of the hall and move it to the outfitting pier.

Following the float-out, the ship, which has a thematic focus on legendary Disney heroes and villains, will remain in the Papenburg shipyard harbor until late summer. It will then undergo its conveyance along the Ems River towards the North Sea for its final sea trials. The official handover to Disney Cruise Line is expected in the autumn, following the successful completion of these tests. After an Atlantic crossing with its crew members, the Disney Destiny is anticipated to arrive at its future homeport of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From there, it will embark on its maiden voyage on November 20, 2025.
