The ESG Shipping Awards, presented annually across ten distinct categories, pay tribute to shipping companies and maritime businesses worldwide for their achievements in sustainability and responsible corporate conduct. AIDA Cruises had previously been honored in 2024 with a Gold Award for the installation of the largest battery storage system in passenger shipping, with a capacity of 10 megawatt-hours, aboard the AIDAprima.
Silver Award as "Community Leader" for AIDA Cruise & Help
Launched in 2019, the AIDA Cruise & Help initiative is dedicated to improving educational opportunities for children and young people in developing and emerging countries. A particular focus is placed on the crew's home countries and the regions visited by AIDA ships. To date, the initiative has funded the construction of 80 schools worldwide, providing 12,000 children with access to education and thus, prospects for a better future.
Silver Award as "Technology Leader" for Biofuel Utilization
As part of Carnival Corporation & plc, AIDA Cruises is pursuing the ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions in its ship operations by 2050. In close collaboration with various partners from science and industry, AIDA Cruises has been working for many years to develop new propulsion technologies and explore the potential applications of biofuels and e-fuels. In the summer of 2022, AIDAprima was the first large cruise ship to be powered by a blend of marine biofuel. According to the manufacturer, the most recently tested type of biofuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 85 percent.
