Dubrovnik, Croatia – Today, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the ocean cruise ship VASCO DA GAMA, operated by Mystic Cruises, has docked in the port of Dubrovnik. This arrival signifies the conclusion of a week-long voyage through the Eastern Mediterranean, which commenced in Piraeus on May 13, 2025, and simultaneously marks the beginning of a special charter voyage.

The 32-year-old vessel, which regularly operates exclusively for the Stuttgart-based tour operator nicko cruises – a part of the Mystic Cruises group – is now set for the start of a unique event cruise. This is organized by mCruise GmbH in cooperation with nicko cruises and is specifically tailored as the only German-speaking "Gay Cruise" targeting homosexual men.

During this themed journey, the established crew will remain onboard the VASCO DA GAMA. However, the entertainment program will undergo a complete reorientation to cater to the specific interests of the guests, thus differing fundamentally from the standard offerings. Numerous guest artists and DJs will be on board to create a diverse and engaging entertainment lineup.

The voyage, marketed as the "Spartacus Cruise," will span one week until May 27, 2025. The itinerary leads from Dubrovnik to destinations such as Kotor in Montenegro, Saranda in Albania, Gallipoli and Taormina in Italy, continuing to Amalfi and Naples, also in Italy, before concluding in Civitavecchia, the port near Rome. The route planning, which includes less frequently visited ports, does not feature any dedicated sea days. Consequently, the focus is also on exploring the land and culture at the respective destinations.

Following the Spartacus Cruise, the VASCO DA GAMA will return to regular service for nicko cruises from May 27, 2025. A week-long cruise in the Western Mediterranean will then commence, which was also available as a 15-day extended travel option.

Earlier this year, the VASCO DA GAMA underwent a five-week comprehensive modernization and overhaul at the Lisnave shipyard in Setúbal, Portugal. During this period, bathtubs in numerous cabins were replaced with modern showers, among other upgrades. Furthermore, the ship received a more fuel-efficient underwater coating, a shore power connection, an optimized power supply system, and a blending plant for biofuels.

Itinerary of the VASCO DA GAMA during the Spartacus Gay Cruise 2025 (May 20 – May 27, 2025): Dubrovnik – Kotor – Saranda – Gallipoli – Taormina – Amalfi – Naples – Civitavecchia

A continuation of the Spartacus Gay Cruise on the VASCO DA GAMA is also planned for 2026. This event cruise will take place from June 9 to June 14, 2026, and will, for the first time, start in Germany, specifically in Kiel. The itinerary includes the ports of Copenhagen (Denmark), Gdynia for Gdansk (Poland), and Rønne on Bornholm (Denmark).
