A particular focus of these optimizations is the Surfside area, specifically designed for families. The Adventure Ocean teen club, various play equipment, and the water play area are all undergoing a redesign. The conceptual development of these adjustments partly took place at Royal Caribbean's headquarters in Miami, while Meyer Turku and their partner companies in Finland are responsible for the practical implementation.
The Royal Caribbean International cruise line is eagerly anticipating the launch of the Star of the Seas. The ocean liner's inaugural journey is scheduled for August 20, 2025, departing from Port Canaveral in the United States. This is contingent upon the successful completion of all construction work and sea trials in the Baltic Sea region. The ship's delivery and subsequent transatlantic crossing to Florida are planned for the summer.
The new flagship, identical to its sister ship Icon of the Seas which entered service in early 2024, will be divided into eight distinct experience neighborhoods: Chill Island, Thrill Island, Surfside, AquaDome, The Hideaway, Central Park, Royal Promenade, and Suite Neighborhood. As one of the world's largest cruise ships, it will offer an impressive infrastructure, including seven swimming pools, ten whirlpools, a water park with six waterslides, a surf simulator, and a high ropes course. The culinary offerings will feature over 20 restaurants, complemented by more than 20 bars and lounges. Live entertainment will be provided almost continuously in various areas on board.
