The special asparagus menu was introduced aboard AIDA ships punctually on May 5th, a date celebrated as "German Asparagus Day," highlighting the origin and high quality of this seasonal product. Alongside the quality of German asparagus, AIDA Cruises places particular emphasis on the regional sourcing of its food.
René Thiersch, Senior Manager Culinary at AIDA Cruises, emphasizes the company's philosophy: "Responsible food handling is of a high priority for us on board. Our goal is to guarantee our guests excellent quality in the selection and presentation of our dishes. A key aspect of this is the origin of our products. Regional purchasing not only optimizes our procurement and transport processes but also promotes local cooperation and strengthens the domestic economy."
The asparagus enjoyment is seamlessly followed by the strawberry season, and here too, AIDA Cruises focuses on fresh, regional products. Guests aboard the fleet can anticipate the sweet taste of strawberries from Northern Germany. The partnership with Karls, Germany's largest strawberry grower, which was successfully established last year, will continue this year. AIDA ships calling at the ports of Warnemünde, Hamburg, and Kiel in the summer will be directly supplied with fresh strawberries from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is planned to offer around 30 tons of these fruits fleet-wide. With this partnership, AIDA Cruises is intensifying its local commitment in its home region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. "Karls' strawberries are synonymous with freshness, regionality, and an outstanding taste experience. We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Karls this year, thereby bringing a piece of home to our guests' plates," Thiersch adds.
A wide array of strawberry creations awaits passengers on board. From refreshing desserts and juicy strawberry cake to tempting strawberry sundaes at the ice cream parlors, the sweet fruit is celebrated in diverse forms – a taste of home that travels the world culinarily.
