Strong winds and an associated storm warning for the region made a safe docking maneuver in the port of Oranjestad impossible. The ship's command of AIDAbella was therefore compelled to prioritize the safety of passengers and crew and cancel the visit to the island. Efforts to divert to an alternative port with better weather forecasts were unsuccessful.
Consequently, guests onboard are spending an unscheduled day at sea. The vessel has now set course for La Romana in the Dominican Republic, the departure and arrival port for this voyage. As Friday was already scheduled as a sea day, the cruise will now conclude with two consecutive days at sea.
The current 14-day Caribbean voyage concludes this upcoming Saturday, April 5, 2025. Immediately afterwards, AIDAbella will commence its repositioning voyage to Europe. The destination of this transatlantic journey is Hamburg, Germany, where the ship is expected on April 24, 2025. This positioning cruise, which was bookable in various segments, started in its longest version on March 30, 2025, in Fort-de-France, Martinique. The route includes other Caribbean islands and the Canary Islands before reaching mainland Europe with a call at Leixões (near Porto, Portugal) on April 19, 2025.
Despite arriving in Hamburg, AIDAbella will operate the 2025 summer season not from there, but from Kiel, Germany. Various cruises are planned from the port of Kiel, primarily heading to Norway and the Baltic Sea region.
