Only crew members are currently on board the Disney Treasure, as the maiden voyage with passengers is not planned until December 21, 2024. Before then, the ship will be unveiled to the public at a celebratory event in New York City on November 19 and 20, 2024. Preparations for the ceremonial christening of the cruise ship are already likely to be in full swing.
The handover of the Disney Treasure from Meyer Werft to Disney Cruise Line did not take place until October 2024. On October 29, the ship left the port of Eemshaven in the Netherlands for the crossing to North America. After a stopover in Funchal on Madeira, it continued its Atlantic crossing. An unexpected incident occurred on November 10, 2024: the crew of the Disney Treasure rescued four people who were in distress on a catamaran and had made a distress call.
In addition to the crew, a number of invited guests were also on board during the crossing, who took the opportunity to get a first impression of the new cruise ship. The Disney Treasure is the second ship in the Triton class and will be used for week-long Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral in the coming years. The ship's schedule is already set until spring 2026 and includes itineraries exclusively to the Western and Eastern Caribbean.
Disney Cruise Line, a major customer of Meyer Werft, has ordered further newbuilds in addition to the Disney Treasure. The Disney Destiny is due to be delivered in 2025, followed by four ships of a new class scheduled for completion between 2027 and 2031. This means that Disney Cruise Line is now one of Meyer Werft's most important partners in Papenburg.
