Gastrointestinal infection on the Radiance of the Seas: Almost one in ten passengers affected
In view of the high number of sick guests, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has introduced extensive safety precautions. A spokesperson for the company emphasized that the health and well-being of both passengers and crew is a top priority. For this reason, comprehensive cleaning and disinfection measures have been implemented that go beyond the usual requirements of the health authorities. In addition, special announcements were made on board to inform passengers about the situation and the protective measures.
Gastrointestinal illnesses occasionally occur on cruises, as many people come together in a confined space. Norovirus is often identified as the trigger, which has a high infection rate. Such a virus can spread quickly, especially on cruise ships.
The Radiance of the Seas is currently on a cruise along the west coast of North America. The voyage, which began in Vancouver, Canada, on September 27, 2024, will last a total of eight days and end in Los Angeles on October 5, 2024. Along the way, the ship will make stops in Vi7ctoria (Canada), Seattle, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Santa Catalina Island before finally arriving in Los Angeles.
