The project is not only a highlight for vacationers but also a crucial economic engine for the Bahamas. In its first year, it created around 1,000 jobs for locals. Furthermore, Bahamian entrepreneurs own 80 percent of the shops and restaurants. Long-term forecasts suggest the resort will contribute nearly $10 billion to the island nation's gross domestic product over 20 years. This strong local integration bolsters the partnership between the cruise line and the government.
To efficiently manage daily crowds of up to 13,000 guests, the 150-hectare site is divided into five distinct zones. Families can enjoy giant freshwater pools and waterslides at the "Starfish Lagoon," while adults unwind at the lively "Calypso Lagoon" or the exclusive "Pearl Cove Beach Club." The early completion of Phase 2 in June 2026 ensures that four ships can now be accommodated simultaneously. This eliminates long wait times and paves the way for projected growth of up to four million visitors by 2028.
In the future, the resort will serve as a company-wide Caribbean hub. Princess Cruises will begin calling at the island in late 2026, followed by AIDA Cruises catering to the European market in November 2027. At the same time, Carnival is heavily prioritizing sustainability and inclusion. Unserved meals are donated to local aid organizations, and used coffee grounds are brought ashore for composting. Furthermore, Celebration Key is the world's first cruise destination to receive a sensory inclusive certification, making the experience much more comfortable for guests with specific sensory needs.
