Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has fundamentally reformed and standardized its shipboard regulations. Following an announcement in late May, implementation across the entire fleet was completed between June 3 and June 8, 2026. The new guidelines primarily impact three areas: cabin door decorations, bringing alcohol on board, and the use of photography and video accessories. The cruise line’s goals are clear: enhancing safety, ensuring accessible hallways, and boosting onboard revenue.

The most significant change affects the alcohol policy. The previously liberal rules have been drastically restricted. Each adult guest (aged 21 and older, or 18 and older for sailings departing from Singapore) is now permitted to bring only one bottle of wine or champagne (up to 750 ml) or a six-pack of beer in their carry-on luggage for the entire duration of the cruise. Any alcohol purchased at ports of call will be confiscated at the gangway and held until disembarkation. As a small concession, the restaurant corkage fee has been reduced from $29 to $20. Nonetheless, passengers will now have to rely much more heavily on the ship's own beverage packages.

The popular fan culture of decorating stateroom doors has also been given stricter boundaries. In the past, excessive displays, string lights, and banners in the hallways disrupted stateroom stewards and obstructed guests with wheelchairs or strollers. Moving forward, decorations are strictly limited to the physical surface of the cabin door itself. Only magnetic attachments are allowed—adhesives or tapes are banned due to potential damage to the paintwork. Violators face a $100 damage fee charged to their shipboard account. Furthermore, decorating concierge staterooms on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy is now completely prohibited because these doors are made of solid wood.

Photography enthusiasts and content creators will also need to adapt. To prevent crowding and safety hazards on deck, a strict length restriction has been introduced for selfie sticks, extension poles, and tripods. In public areas, these tools may only be used if they can be retracted or folded to a length of under 18 inches (approx. 45.7 cm). With this rule, the cruise line is also addressing international maritime safety laws, which strictly prohibit extending objects over stateroom balcony railings.
