On board the completely sold-out AIDAprima, the predominantly younger passengers aged between 20 and 35 celebrated to a high-profile line-up. A total of 32 live acts from the fields of hip-hop, EDM, pop, and party music—including well-known headliners such as SDP, Clueso, Bausa, Sido, and Culcha Candela—ensured an amazing atmosphere on the stages. The event was complemented by smart marketing campaigns, such as a nationwide newcomer contest via AIDAradio, whose winners performed live on board. This format proves that modern comfort featuring a spa, fine dining, and premium service on board offers an attractive alternative to traditional land-based festivals.
From both a technical and economic perspective, the voyage was a major success. The event cruise generates significantly higher cabin prices and onboard revenues compared to standard short trips in the shoulder season. To prevent the intensive stage and lighting technology from overloading the ship's systems, AIDAprima utilizes an advanced battery system from Corvus Energy. This system absorbs peak loads ("peak shaving") and, combined with eco-friendly LNG technology, ensures optimized operations. The cruise was also perfectly timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of AIDA Cruises, which was celebrated just days earlier with a spectacular ship parade on the Elbe River.
The success vindicates the concept: While the current voyage was wrapping up in Hamburg, the booking channels for next year were already open. In 2027, the "AIDA FESTIVAL Cruise" will enter its fourth round and expand. The event will move to the identical sister ship, AIDAperla, and will be extended to five days. The new itinerary will lead from Hamburg to the trendy Scandinavian metropolises of Gothenburg and Copenhagen. With this move, the cruise line strengthens its position in the highly competitive market for themed cruises, where operators are currently in fierce competition for experience-driven travelers.
