During the festival week, a total of seven major cruise ships will visit the terminals across eleven individual calls. Since mega-liners exceeding 300 meters in length require significant capacity, port logistics will be operating at full speed. While passengers at the downtown Ostseekai terminal can walk straight into the festival grounds, a dedicated shuttle service at the geographically separated Ostuferhafen on the port side of the fjord ensures smooth operations. Environmental sustainability is a major focus this year, with modern shore-power facilities minimizing ship emissions during port stays. For those arriving by car, early parking reservations are strongly recommended.
The sporting heart of the festival beats at the Schilksee Olympic Center. As part of the exclusive "Sailing Grand Slam", Kiel Week attracts more than 4,500 athletes from around 60 nations. Across more than 350 races, the regatta schedule is precisely divided: the first half features Olympic classes such as ILCA and the high-speed 49er skiffs, followed by international classes and the Flying Dutchman World Championship. A sporting premiere takes place at the new location in Stein on the starboard side of the outer fjord: under the motto "Foil-Power & Beach-Vibes", modern, flying wingfoil classes will fascinate spectators directly from the beach. On the Baltic Sea, sailing associations from Germany, Denmark, and Sweden are also cooperating for the new "Viking Challenge" offshore race.
The ultimate visual highlight for maritime enthusiasts is the legendary Windjammer Parade on the second Saturday (June 27). Starting at 11:00 AM, over 100 traditional sailing vessels and historic steamboats will form a precise formation. Serving as the official ambassador, the three-masted top-sail schooner "Mare Frisium" will lead the parade to celebrate its 110th anniversary, as the naval training ship "Gorch Fock" is away on an international voyage. These historic ships will be docked across the harbor throughout the week, inviting visitors for open-ship tours or day cruises. The German Navy will also open its gates at the Wik naval base during the first weekend, alongside hosting the traditional naval cutter regatta.
Away from the water, the urban summer festival offers over 2,000 free cultural and musical events across more than 15 stages. The line-up ranges from top pop acts like Alice Merton, Max Giesinger, and Glasperlenspiel to rock and punk bands like Kettcar, Fury in the Slaughterhouse, and Dritte Wahl, as well as electronic beats and traditional maritime music. Since the event coincides with the 2026 UEFA European Championship, a comprehensive public viewing infrastructure is provided. Families can enjoy the 52nd "Spiellinie", the new multi-day "Blaupark", and the puppet theater. At the Nordmarksportfeld, the "Willer Balloon Sail" attracts crowds with spectacular hot air balloon night glows and fireworks. For stress-free mobility, the Kiel-Week-Ticket offers unlimited public transport rides for 14 euros (or 31 euros including fjord ferries).
