An absolute highlight are the many ships to marvel at on the port and starboard sides of the Elbe river. The Grand Arrival Parade on Friday brings over 100 vessels into the harbor, including the historic Norwegian three-masted bark Statsraad Lehmkuhl. On Saturday, the world-famous Tugboat Ballet will showcase impressive motorized maneuverability. In addition, nine huge cruise ships will dock, including the Mein Schiff 7 and the AIDA fleet. Good news for the environment: All terminals are now supplying the ships entirely with emission-free shore power.
Away from the water, there is plenty to discover across the four-kilometer-long festival grounds starting this afternoon. This year's partner region, Liverpool, brings British flair, pop culture, and typical music straight to the Baumwall area. National and international stars will perform on a total of eleven stages. Acts like Santiano and Max Giesinger will play on the floating Elbe Stage. A large drone show and the traditional fireworks on Saturday evening round off the entertainment program.
Logistics, however, remain an enormous challenge this weekend. Due to the full closure of the A7 motorway at the Elbe Tunnel, large demonstrations, and an HSV home game, a traffic collapse is looming in the city. Visitors should definitely switch to peripheral public transport stops, as the streets around the port are hermetically sealed off. Strict security measures, such as an absolute ban on weapons and drones across the entire grounds, as well as the presence of the German Armed Forces, ensure the safety of the massive crowds.
