As a vessel of the Helios class, the AIDAcosma is a technological pioneer. The ship is powered almost entirely by liquefied natural gas (LNG). This technology drastically reduces the emission of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides, serving as an important bridge technology toward climate-neutral cruising. With a length of 337 meters and 17 decks, it is one of the largest cruise ships in the world, offering space for nearly 6,900 passengers at maximum capacity.
On board, the ship itself is increasingly becoming the focus of the vacation. To appeal more strongly to families, millennials, and Generation Z, the company relies on the casual "ship-as-a-destination" concept. This means: no fixed dining times and no strict dress code. Instead, guests spread out across 17 restaurants, 16 bars, huge water parks, and a bouldering wall. The modern architecture, featuring many decentralized facilities, ensures that passenger flows remain relaxed even when fully booked.
The AIDAcosma's anniversary coincides with a historic year for the cruise line, as AIDA Cruises is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026 with major fleet parades and special event cruises. At the same time, the company is adapting to new global challenges. Due to geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East, winter routes have been relocated to European waters. While older ships are currently undergoing extensive modernization, the cruise line is already planning for the future: upcoming newbuilds from Italy will be slightly smaller to allow for more flexible maneuvering in ports.
