Season Start 2026 in Warnemünde: The Completely Renewed AIDAdiva Kicks It Off

When AIDAdiva steers into the sea channel of Rostock on March 29, 2026, it is more than just a routine call. It marks the starting signal for the cruise year on the Warnow river. The fact that the season opener takes place as early as the end of March clearly shows how much the industry is changing: seasons are becoming longer, and ships are braving the somewhat rougher spring weather of the Baltic Sea.

For cruise fans, there is particularly much to see this Sunday. The AIDAdiva docking here is no longer the ship we have known from previous years.

Anyone who believes AIDAdiva is "just" an older ship of the Sphinx class (built in 2007) will be surprised. The ship comes almost directly from the shipyard in Marseille, where it underwent the most extensive modernization in its history in February and March 2025. Under the program name "AIDA Evolution," the "Diva" was technically and visually elevated to the level of brand-new vessels.

What does this mean specifically for guests?

  • New Suites at the Stern: Where standard balcony cabins used to be, guests can now enjoy an unobstructed view of the wake in new premium suites.
  • Culinary Variety: The restaurant offerings have been massively expanded. New on board are, among others, the "Yacht Club Restaurant" with an outdoor area, the French bistro "French Kiss," and a large Asian area featuring sushi and fusion cuisine.
  • Tech Upgrade: Thanks to Starlink, the internet on board is now as fast as at home, and the cabins have also received a fresh, bright look.

When the captain and crew maneuver the ship to the pier, the infrastructure is ready. AIDAdiva is expected to dock at the modern "Warnemünde Cruise Center 8" (WCC8). This terminal is specifically designed to handle thousands of passengers and their luggage smoothly and safely—whether the sun is shining or a fresh Baltic breeze is blowing.

A particularly important point for the environment: during the docking time, the ship's engines remain off. The port of Rostock-Warnemünde boasts one of the most powerful shore power plants in Europe. This means zero emissions in the port, less noise for residents, and clean air on deck—regardless of whether you are standing at the railing on starboard looking at the port or on port side looking out at the Warnow.

After casting off at 6:00 PM, guests will embark on a five-day short trip, which is ideal for starting the season. After a relaxing day at sea, the ship heads for Stockholm. The passage through the archipelago is the nautical highlight here. The journey continues to the island of Gotland to Visby and the naval port of Karlskrona.

This route is cleverly chosen: it offers a lot of culture in a short time and uses ports that can be accessed well regardless of the weather.

AIDAdiva is just the beginning. In total, around 161 calls are expected in Rostock-Warnemünde in 2026. AIDA Cruises remains the top dog, ensuring stable utilization of the port with ships like AIDAmar and AIDAluna. But international giants like the "Sky Princess" or luxury yachts like the "Evrima" will also be guests on the Warnow over the summer.

For the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region, this early start is a good signal. It brings life, logistics, and tourists to the city and shows that the Baltic Sea is a fascinating travel destination even outside of midsummer.
