AIDA Evolution: Turning Old into New
Perhaps the most important signal of the year: AIDA did not launch a new ship in 2025. Instead, the budget flowed into the massive "AIDA Evolution" program. The strategy is clear: The existing fleet is being upgraded to keep pace with modern new builds.
AIDAdiva kicked things off. She spent seven weeks in the shipyard in Marseille during the spring. Guests boarding her now will find modernized areas that need not hide from the newer ships. AIDAluna was also freshened up by December and returned to service as a sort of Christmas gift to the guests. The plan for the future is already set:
- Spring 2026: AIDAbella follows into the shipyard.
- Christmas 2026: It will be AIDAmar's turn.
With this move, the cruise line ensures that guests feel completely comfortable even on the older ships of the Sphinx class and do not migrate to competitors with younger fleets.
Focus on Event Voyages and Families
Simply transporting passengers from A to B is often no longer enough today. AIDA is therefore increasingly focusing on "eventization." A highlight was the continuation of the "Festival Cruise" on AIDAprima, where the ship itself became a party location. The "O'zapft is!" Oktoberfest special on AIDAnova in Norway also demonstrated how to successfully export Bavarian coziness to the high seas.
There was news for families as well: With the campaign surrounding the mascot "Maki Matti," AIDA clearly positions itself as an emotional brand for all ages. In doing so, they consciously differentiate themselves from the "higher-faster-further" concepts of other cruise lines.
Route Planning: Flexibility is Key
The global political situation did not leave the cruise industry untouched. Due to the security situation in the Red Sea, AIDA avoided the Orient and the Suez Canal. An example of this is AIDAprima: Instead of heading for Dubai in winter, she remained in the North. Winter cruises from Germany thus developed out of necessity into a real trend product for everyone who wants to travel without an airplane.
Looking ahead to autumn 2026, there is good news for USA fans: The freshly renovated AIDAdiva will set course for New York—a classic returns.
Doing Good with "Cruise & Help"
In addition to operational business, the topic of responsibility played a major role. The "AIDA Cruise & Help" initiative celebrated a milestone in 2025: By now, 90 school projects have been financed worldwide, including in Togo, India, and Namibia. The money for this often comes directly from the guests, for example through raffle revenues on board. Thus, a vacation becomes a contribution to education in developing regions.
Conclusion
AIDA Cruises used 2025 to strengthen itself from within. Instead of joining the arms race for the largest ship, the quality of the existing fleet was massively improved on both starboard and port sides. Communication has become more personal, and the cruise line shows that it can react flexibly to global challenges. For 2026, the signs point to quality assurance and emotional experiences.
