The Mein Schiff Relax isn't just another ship; it's the prototype of the completely new "InTUItion Class." With a size of around 160,000 GRT (Gross Register Tonnage) and space for nearly 4,000 passengers, she is significantly larger than her predecessors.
The exciting news for fans of the fleet: Despite the growth, TUI Cruises remains true to its brand core. The so-called passenger-space ratio—the amount of available space per guest—remains at an extremely high level. The "feel-good" concept is set to be maintained even on the new giant. Technologically, the ship is future-proof, equipped with LNG propulsion (Liquefied Natural Gas) and a shore power connection. And this connection is crucial.
The most important question is: Why Hamburg, of all places? The answer lies in a mix of clever foresight and new environmental regulations.
Starting in 2027, the Port of Hamburg is tightening its rules: The use of shore power will become mandatory for all ships technically capable of using it. TUI Cruises is acting with foresight here. Instead of having to expensively retrofit older ships, the cruise line is simply placing its most modern vessel, which already has this technology on board, in Germany's most important port. This "proactive compliance" turns a regulatory hurdle into a clear competitive advantage.
The Mein Schiff Relax will set sail from the Elbe River from May to October 2027. The program's focus is clearly on Norway. The offerings are diverse to appeal to different target groups:
- Short Trips: 5-day tours (e.g., to Oslo) for beginners.
- Classics: 8 to 12-day voyages to the Norwegian fjords.
- Premium Voyages: 15-day journeys up to the North Cape.
TUI Cruises is also using the new flagship's popularity for an exciting test: For the first time, cruises exclusively for adults (18 and over) will be offered from a German port.
These "Adults-Only" trips are strategically planned for autumn 2027 (September/October), after the main holiday season. With two itineraries to Norway, the company aims to test the concept's acceptance in the German market. A similar trial is running concurrently on the Mein Schiff 4 in the Mediterranean. The goal is to attract new, affluent target groups who wish to travel in a quiet atmosphere.
Basing the Mein Schiff Relax in Hamburg is more than just a new route. It is the prelude to TUI's announced expansion in Northern Europe.
The success of the 2027 season will serve as a "proof-of-concept" and as a blueprint for two more planned newbuilds (scheduled for delivery in 2031 and 2033). For competitors like AIDA or MSC, this means: the pressure in Hamburg's premium segment is increasing. In 2027, TUI Cruises is setting a new technological and qualitative benchmark in the Hanseatic city.
