The largest cruise ship ever built in Germany, the "Disney Adventure," is about to embark on its maiden voyage. The ship, with an impressive gross tonnage of 208,000 GT, is scheduled to leave the shipyard in Wismar early Monday morning. This date has been officially confirmed after initial speculation about an earlier departure on the weekend.

This departure is not just a major logistical event; it also holds profound symbolic significance for the city. It marks the definitive end of civilian large-scale shipbuilding at this location. The shipyard will now focus on building naval ships and submarines under the management of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). The vessel, which began its life as the "Global Dream," has a turbulent history. After the insolvency of MV Werften, Disney acquired the unfinished hull and had it transformed into a state-of-the-art floating resort by Meyer Werft.

Departing from the relatively narrow harbor in Wismar is a complex maneuver, for which the "Disney Adventure" will be loaded with minimal fuel to reduce its draft. Several tugboats will pull the 342-meter-long, 46-meter-wide colossal ship out to sea. The city of Wismar has announced a harbor closure from Sunday evening at 10:00 PM until Monday morning at 9:00 AM to ensure the departure can proceed safely.

Following its departure, sea trials are planned in the Baltic Sea, with subsequent stops in Bremerhaven and Eemshaven. The "Disney Adventure" will ultimately be transferred to the port of Singapore, which will serve as its strategic home base. This is a significant step for Disney, as it marks the company's first year-round presence in Southeast Asia. The ship, capable of accommodating up to 6,700 passengers, will offer short cruises of three to five days and is designed as a floating theme park with attractions like the "Pym Quantum Racers" go-kart track and the "Ironcycle Test Run" roller coaster. The investment in this construction and its conversion to methanol fuel underscore Disney's focus on providing a unique experience rather than merely maximizing passenger count.

The completion of the ship secured hundreds of jobs during the transition period and symbolizes the transformation of the region's maritime industry. It is a farewell to one era that ushers in the beginning of a new, militarily focused future.
