fire in a warehouse in the Port of Hamburg, more specifically in the Veddel district, triggered a large-scale fire department operation. What began as a vehicle fire developed into a dangerous scenario when stored compressed gas cylinders exploded. The flames and flying debris caused further damage in the surrounding area, even hitting emergency vehicles and injuring one person on the nearby motorway.

Hundreds of emergency personnel were on site, including specialized units from the airport fire department and the police, who arrived with a clearing tank and water cannons. Despite the difficulties caused by the flying debris, the emergency services were able to contain the fire. The A1 motorway was temporarily closed, leading to long traffic jams. Local shipping and train traffic were also affected.

The good news: the actual operations of the Port of Hamburg, especially the large container terminals, remained unaffected. This shows how well the port is set up with its geographical layout to prevent major disasters. Five people were injured in the fire, one of them with life-threatening injuries. The incident highlights the importance of proper handling of hazardous materials and effective crisis planning.
