As an integral part of Hurtigruten's Signature fleet, the MS Finnmarken is deployed for voyages commencing from Hamburg. During the summer months, it operates the so-called North Cape Line on a bi-weekly rotation. This itinerary takes passengers to captivating Norwegian destinations such as Stavanger, Bergen, the picturesque Hjørundfjord, the island of Senja, and the renowned Lofoten Islands. In contrast to the traditional Coastal Voyage route between Bergen and Kirkenes, the Hamburg itinerary features significantly longer port calls.
Affected guests booked on the cancelled voyage from July 25 to August 8, 2025, must now seek alternative travel arrangements. Hurtigruten is offering rebooking options for the departures on July 11 or August 8, 2025, given the ship's impending shipyard visit. The precise location of the shipyard where the stern thruster repairs will be carried out is currently undisclosed. However, it is speculated that the vessel might head to the Danish shipyard in Frederikshavn, as it did several months ago.
Rectifying the stern thruster defect is crucial to ensure the ship's full maneuverability. These specialized propulsion units are vital for precise sideways movement during docking and undocking maneuvers at a pier. They also play a significant role in turning operations. The stern thruster is located at the stern of the ship, while the bow thruster is at the bow.
