The order announced today for the ships, currently designated as World Class 5 and 6, underscores MSC Cruises' ongoing commitment to shipbuilding in France and the European maritime industry. Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, emphasized that this order confirmation is a significant step in continuing the shipbuilding tradition in France and aligns with the company's long-term growth strategy. He highlighted that the collaboration with Chantiers de l’Atlantique, spanning over two decades, establishes a legacy of excellence and innovation, positioning the World Class as an exceedingly successful ship class that merges advanced environmental technologies with an outstanding guest experience.
Laurent Castaing, General Manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, expressed gratitude for MSC Cruises' continued trust. He noted that the combined expertise of both companies has led to the development of the promising World Class series, which meets both passenger expectations and ecological challenges. The World Class 5 and 6 ships, with their energy efficiency, are set to mark a new milestone in cruise industry history.
The World Class ships already stand out for their high energy efficiency, significantly exceeding the requirements of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). The newly ordered vessels will maintain this high standard. All ships in this class are designed for the use of alternative fuels, such as bio and synthetic LNG, and will be equipped with the latest generation dual-fuel engines that further reduce methane slip.
Furthermore, the future ships will feature shore power connections to minimize CO₂ emissions during port stays. They will be outfitted with modern wastewater treatment systems compliant with IMO standards, advanced waste management solutions, and numerous other energy-efficient technologies on board. These measures contribute to optimizing the energy consumption of engines and hotel operations, thereby lowering overall emissions.
Like their sister ships, the newbuilds will also combine MSC Cruises' signature elegant European design with supreme comfort. The guest experience will be enriched by diverse areas and offerings tailored to the needs of various types of travelers. MSC Cruises announced that World Class 5 and 6 will also introduce fresh ideas and special highlights.
