Hamburg Port Anniversary 2025: Major Maritime Event Featuring Seven Cruise Ships and Full Programme

Hamburg is gearing up for the celebrations of the 836th Port Anniversary, officially commencing today, Friday, May 9, 2025. Widely regarded as Germany's most popular maritime public festival, the event traditionally attracts countless spectators and an impressive fleet of vessels. The focus is particularly on majestic tall ships and historic traditional ships. In addition, seven cruise ships will also call at the Hanseatic city during the festival weekend, which runs until Sunday.

This year's extensive supporting programme for the Port Anniversary once again offers well-loved attractions. These include the spectacular arrival and departure parades, the "Open Ship" opportunity aboard numerous traditional vessels, an impressive high-altitude fireworks display on Saturday evening, and the artistic tugboat ballet. Various concerts will provide musical entertainment. Detailed information on all festivities around the Landungsbrücken (landing stages) is available directly from the event organiser. A special highlight is the "Elbe in Concert" show on Friday and Saturday evenings: prominent artists such as Nina Chuba, Johannes Oerding, Wincent Weiss, David Puentez, and Lotto King Karl will create an exuberant atmosphere on a floating stage in front of the Landungsbrücken.

While some cruise ships are specifically heading to Hamburg for the Port Anniversary, others are using the period for regular passenger changeovers. Despite the large number of ships and visitors, regular port operations will continue largely unimpeded. For cruise passengers whose journey begins or ends in Hamburg during the festival days, a visit to the event mile along the Elbe embankment offers a special experience.

This weekend, a total of six ocean-going cruise ships and one river cruise ship are expected to arrive in Hamburg. The fleet of ocean liners consists of AIDAluna, AIDAsol, AIDAprima, and AIDAperla from AIDA Cruises, Queen Anne from Cunard Line, and MS Amadea from Phoenix Reisen. The line-up is completed by the river cruise ship Excellence Pearl. Sunday promises a grand finale with a triple arrival of MS Amadea, AIDAluna, and AIDAprima.

The Hamburg Port Anniversary has repeatedly served as a distinguished backdrop for ceremonial acts by cruise lines and has been the scene of memorable events in the past. One of the most outstanding moments is considered to be the christening of AIDAmar on May 12, 2012, during the 823rd Hamburg Port Anniversary. This spectacular event, accompanied by a parade of four cruise ships – including the ship being christened and its sister ships AIDAsol, AIDAblu, and AIDAluna – drew thousands of visitors to the banks of the Elbe.

In addition to AIDAmar, other renowned ships were also christened during the Port Anniversary: MS Europa 2 by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises in 2013, AIDAprima by AIDA Cruises in 2016, and Mein Schiff 1 by TUI Cruises in 2018.
